Google Student Ambassador: Documentation

*The purpose of this entry is to be a guide for those who will aspire to become a GSA.

Layout by: Neiljan Raborar IS, NDMU-CSD Faculty

The link for application was posted in our department official Facebook group: NDMU CSD. The original deadline for the application is April 7 but then it was moved to April 24. It was an alumni friend who encourage me to apply, upon seeing the application form, it’s not easy.  It took weeks for me to finish my application because it has a lot of requirements that needs to be comply first like certificate of enrollment, recommendation letter/s and a YouTube video.

Here is the summary of my application form:

My YouTube video.

I am really sorry for the low quality. I just used a cellphone for the video clips and I am also the one who edited it, I admit I don’t have enough skills but at least I know the basics. hehe

May 2, 2014 I visit the Google Student Ambassador Philippines Facebook page and I saw a new post that the result of the GSA Application is out. I don’t have an internet connection at that time and so I cannot check my Gmail. I was really nervous I was like “I don’t like to open my Gmail ‘cause I’m afraid I didn’t receive an email”.

The next day I opened my Gmail and I was amazed. Woahh I received emails.

Along with the confirmation email.

My certificates for the required online exam.

I am so grateful for those persons who greeted me and show how proud they are to me.

A post by an alumni “PHILNITS passer” in our facebook page. He was the one who encourage me to apply.

Software Engineering Project

"A Proposal to Upgrade the Overall Tabulation and Updating System of NDMU University Week"

Project Overview:

Notre Dame of Marbel University is conducting University Week yearly every month of September. In line with this the five colleges Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Technology; and Health and Sciences are competing in the different events initiated by the Supreme Student Government (SSG). The events are classified into indoor, outdoor, other events socio-cultural, academic and literary; and Mr. and Ms. University. Each event has a corresponding no. of gold for the champion. If the said event would reward four gold for the winner the preceding ranks will receive four silver, four bronze, four copper and four tin. Accordingly three silver is equal to one gold; three bronze is equal to one silver; three copper is equal to one bronze and three tin is equal to one copper. The college with the most number of gold received is declared to be the overall champion of the competition.
The tabulation of the results in different events as well as the overall ranking of the five colleges is in charge by the Student Commission on Audit (SCOA).  They gathered judges’ scheme and manually solve it to come up with the result of a particular event. The result then is presented to the SSG Event Committee Heads for them to announce and update the overall ranking through posting a printed sheet of paper in front of San Lorenzo Ruiz building.

Statement of the Problem

The existing tabulation being adapted by the SCOA is error prone due to human limitations and doesn’t provide efficient result since it is done manually. On the other hand the manual updating system of SSG cost a lot of paper and time consuming process.

Objectives

To deal with such delayed updating process and insufficient result the proponents aim to upgrade the updating system of the SSG to provide more efficient and reliable result of the competition. Through the improved updating and overall tabulation system, instead of a printed sheet of paper the SSG will only need to provide a DLP (Digital Light Processing) to view the results.  It will also minimize SCOA’s tabulation duty since they will only need to focus on the tabulation of different events and will prevent human errors.

CET Student Council Experience

TRIBUTE for old and new officers

White sand? We do not need to go to Boracay just to have that kind of experience. We have it, right here in Mindanao, it's in Glan, Sarangani. It was April 2013 we had our Tribute Program for both new and outgoing CETSC. Around 3pm when we arrived; and night we had short program: passing the responsibility; Parlor games: vs. old officers. new officers and then night swimming.

Programming Contest Experiences

It was July 14, 2012 and I participated the Programming Contest Eliminations. I’m not that really good in solving programming problems and so I didn’t make it. But it’s fine because I’m still in 2nd year at that time. I didn’t feel bad but rather I feel embarrass because out of 5 problems I didn’t able to answer even just one problem. Haha

Last July 29-30, 2014 we participated in Mindanao Conference for IT Students (MCITS) IT Olympiad 2013-2014 held at Davao City. Here are the list of my co-participants:

This entry is so informal because I wrote it in tagalog-english, how I usually share experience to others. I hope I would have a time to edit or better translate it in a more formal way. This entry was written a year ago its like a diary in my personal computer.

Plus another unexpected happened was we had our lunch at Jollibee and the Pacquiao family went to eat there too. I had a chance to take a picture with Mrs. Jinky and one of his son.

NSTP Experience

One of the most exciting programs I had during my 1st year is through the National Service Training Program (NSTP). I enjoyed our Saturday sessions all throughout my year. The seminars conducted we’re very helpful in widening our knowledge about our role as a student in the community. The second part of the program during second semester our goal was to develop a certain community in Koronadal City our group was assigned at Prk. Bagong Silang.

Tree Planting, Gardening and Feeding Program

RE102-Integration Program

Last September 25,2011 was our integration program at Baumol Elementary School, Pidtiguian.

It was such a meaningful experience for me because it is my first time participating activity like that; travelling so far in order to reach the said school, but in spite of that it’s all worth it through the experience like helping, feeding, entertaining and giving donations to the needy children. My heart melts as I saw them very eager to get food and wondering what’s kind of food is that especially the ‘mineral water.

Through this experience I realize that I need to be contented and thank Allah for bestowing me a life not perfect but satisfying. I learned that I need to give importance to whatever prepared food in the table I should put in my mind that not all people eat at those time and a food like that. I realize also that I need to thank my parents for working hard to uplift our lifestyle because without it I think I could be like those children.
But above all I was very glad that I belong to MWF 5:30-6:30 RE101 Class without them I can’t experience that. I wish I could go back there or participate more outreach program; I’m sure that would be a great experience again.
